I've Been Tagged...
Marlow Harris the blog author of 360Digest and my partner in crime at the Seattle P-I Blog: Seattle Real Estate Professionals, tagged me in a "meme" style linking extravaganza first started by Mack Collier of The Viral Garden. I had seen a few people write on their blogs that they had been "memed" but I didn't pay much attention to what was going on until Marlow tagged me. The idea behind this whole exercise is
"to create a meme built around giving link-love to the blogs that deserve it, and hopefully turn Technorati's system of using a blog's # of links to determine its 'authority', on its ear."
Ben at the Instigator Blog interprets Mack's quote above by saying:
"His take is that Technorati doesn’t adequately measure the value/importance of a blog because it focuses primarily on links. Well, it does need something to measure importance by, and links are a reasonable measurement of success in the blogosphere, but there are plenty of blogs out there that deserve attention and don’t get enough of it."
That being the case...Mack also decided to make this a bit more interesting than just a bunch of links to other blogs but is asking everyone who has been tagged to write at least 5 things people may not know about them. It's funny, if you ever read my blog you'll notice there isn't much personality embedded in my posts (and it's something I've noticed and wanted to change up for 2007) so this could be my jump start for my new blogging goals this year.
So without further delay here are a few things that you may not know about me:
1. My family seemed to move a lot when I was a kid so that being the case I attended these grade schools: Juanita Elementary in Kirkland, Holy Family grade school in Kirkland, Holy Rosary grade school in Edmonds, St. Cecilia's grade school in Beaverton OR and was in the last all male graduating class at Jesuit High School in Portland OR.
2. While I didn't know what was to come until about 4 years ago, I actually had met my wife Melanie when I was attending St. Cecilia's grade school in Beaverton OR. I was in the eight grade, she was in fifth.
3. I was an Eagle Scout with Troop 124 in Beaverton.
4. I attended the University of Washington between 1993-1998. I had finished all of my credits to get my Bachelor of Arts degree in English Literature and was going to graduate...but most of my friends had another year or more before they graduated. To postpone my entry into the professional world I decided to stick around campus and get a double major in Communications. Well I stuck around some more (friends still hadn't graduated yet) and ended up working towards getting a second Bachelor of Arts in Communications. I didn't graduate in 1998 though. Right before what was to be my last quarter at school, the company I was working for offered me a position working on a team that was building Verizon Wireless's (was AirTouch Cellular at the time) first online shopping store (I did a majority of the front-end HTML and scripting work for that store). Two weeks later I moved to Newport Beach, CA to work at AirTouch's corporate office in Irvine, CA. I moved back to Seattle in 2000 for six months which gave me the opportunity to finish up my last quarter at the UW.
5. And something quick and fun: The last show/concert I went to was New Model Army at the Vogue on Capitol Hill last month. Damn Justin and the gang can put on a good show.
There you go folks, a few things you may not know about me.
So now it's my turn to tag...Wendy and the Johnson Team, you are it.

An Interesting Closing Gift....
I guess the Realtors in Texas do things a bit differently. Take a look at this Reuters article.
Have you received any wild closings gifts from your agent or if you are an agent, what is the craziest gift you've given to a client?

Zillow adds Homes For Sale
As the rest of the blogosphere has already reported, Zillow has now added a feature to it's site that allows agents and home owner's to post their homes for sale on their website.
While this was something that everyone had anticipated Zillow would do, it will be interesting to see if this will actually take off. The main goal for Zillow: more eyes on their website translates to more advertising revenue. The main users of Zillow's new features: For Sale By Owners. Zillow now join the ranks of other websites such as Google Base, Microsoft Expo and Craigslist who allow free posting of homes for sale.
Marlow at 360 Digest has a good point on whether or not this could be the start of a national MLS.
"By relying on individuals to input, to keep their listings accurate, they also have to rely on individuals to REMOVE their listings when sold. If they don’t keep up on it, they’ll have an unusable database full of expired and sold listings, like Yahoo Real Estate."
Here is some more commentary regarding Zillow's latest move:
